Re: Advice on Off Road Rescue Gear

No one mentioned it but I would never go into a questionable road without a full size shovel.

Re: Thoughts on a combo

I don't get to saltwater as often as I like but do enjoy it. My rig is an Echo II 9' 8wt rod and a Cabelas Three Forks 789 reel. The reel has been discontinued but can still be found on Ebay and such. It's carbon and has a decent drag. The best thing is it has sealed bearings. Just wash it off with ...

Re: New Backpacking Meals?

I've dehydrated all kinds of stuff. Haven't bought any commercial meals in years except maybe bulk freeze dried stuff to make into or add to meals. A fav is my wife's spaghetti. I've even dehydrated ketchup then ground it up in a blender and made powder. If you cook any kind of pasta then dehydrate ...

Re: New etiquette for the Lower Owens.

I would have just walked away from the idiot and started fishing. Let him pick to go around me or the other way. If he had a problem, he could kiss my a**.

Re: 12 Ounces

How much does the leatherman weigh? Never carried one. I like my lanyard around my neck with forceps on a zinger and nippers and flotant. I also use the BBS reel but with a 4 pc 9" 5wt. The 3wt is fine for creeks but I like a bit more on the lakes(wind). No tube just a sock. Never broke a rod y...

Re: New fly rod and reel

Number one, I broke the first one several times. The tip broke trying to retrieve fly from tree, jamming it while walking(clod that I am) falling on it, ect. Do your homework, many of the rodmakers that have been around for a while have very good warranties, even in the price range you are looking ...

Re: New fly rod and reel

I know that I can say from my experience learning to fly fish that I'm glad I didn't start out with an expensive rod. Number one, I broke the first one several times. The tip broke trying to retrieve fly from tree, jamming it while walking(clod that I am) falling on it, ect. Number two, I could actu...

Re: Ursack good for CWL!

That's what I heard. After the bear gets done chewing and throwing it around, the contents are well mixed and loose inside. Seems like they would be easier for a bear to take them for a walk far away too.

Re: I Feel The Earth Move.........

I have been to that spot many times before and after and it is a whole lot more interesting getting across now. A few years ago, my wife and I were backpacking in up above Saddlebag Lake and were awakened in the middle of the night by what sounded like a cross between an earthquake and a 747 landing...

Re: What's on your menu?

I have a dehydrator and dehydrate premade meals at home. I hate freezedried backpacking meals. For breakfast I like "Ova Easy" eggs with dehydrated hashbrowns(store bought) with Dried onion and peppers.Throw in a little shelf stable bacon or chorizo, or maybe some Brookies, yum. :bananadanc...
