Re: A meeting with the founder of Global Fly Fisher

I watched his tying and comments on the classic wooly bugger. Those were good comments with some tips that would be worthwhile for me to copy.

Cheers,

Wow!

Looks lot of fun.

I am curious - why are you using a stripping basket?

Re: It's over...It's just beginning

Retirement is grand. I nave been enjoying retirement for 19 years. The delight is the time perspective - the time is yours to do as you please.

Here’s wishing you good cheer and good health so the time is fruitful and satisfying.

Re: About Water Volume

Thanks Rayfound for the interesting comment. Yes, about 80 percent of the water use is allocated to farmers. However, how the ag industry uses that water is their choice, not ours. The water rights are like a bank account - the values are there, how it gets spent is up to the account holder. As a mu...

Re: Is FFA Dead?

Here’s hoping the admin access issues are fixed.

I would love to see more of the huge fish from NorcalBob, but seeing any fish or photos is great. I have not been out myself.

Holiday Cheer!

Go FFA!

Re: Noah, I want you to build an ark

Nice build and enjoy the drifting and fishing to come. The forum - woodenboatpeople.org is loaded with abundant resources and advice / suggestions. The forum is located in the McKenzie River in OR, but covers the west for builds, organized activities and the such. It seems there is one or two organi...

Re: Long Overdue Trip (Report)

Well, I did not fish that area 43 years ago or even recently. Some of those place are familiar, but I have to catch up for all those years of missed fishing.

Sounds like a whole lot of fun to me!

Re: Backpacking Alone - A Solitary Experience, Or Am I A Mor

Here’s a backpack trip to consider. Horseshoe Meadow to Golden Trout Pack Station. The good news (of sorts), except for the hike over the pass from Horseshoe Meadow, it is all downhill to the Kern River. Trail Pass requires a wilderness permit, but there is no quota. From the Kern River, there are s...

Re: Where Did Everyone Go?

Locally, the fishing has been worse than inspiring! To make things less appealing, the forests have been closed and smoke from fires makes breathing outdoors unpleasant. In the last week or so, I hit the backyard river and came up with 5 species of fish ( no trout). The river above Riverkern was clo...

Re: All California National Forests Closed

Here’s a tidbit to consider. In the Bridgeport Ranger district, day access is allowed, but not camping in dispersed areas. Camping is allowed in private (concessionaire) campgrounds. So, if you have (or can get a reservation) you are good to go. I wouldn’t suggest heading out with no confirmed reser...

Re: The End of an Era?

The PIO map for the French Fire shows containment lines on the South and North ends of Alta Sierra, including the end where your place is located. That is a very good sign. I hope the fire maps are accurate and show your place in the safe zone. At some point, the damaged homes maps are shown on a GI...

Re: The End of an Era?

That is a difficult area to protect, but the efforts seems to be successful so far. The owner of the local grill, posted on twitter that no homes were lost to date.

Here’s hoping the efforts stay successful.

PS. I believe the webcams were at a little south of the ski area.

Re: The SGs [WFSG]

Trash cleanup gives me mixed feelings. In isolated areas, I figure my trash pickup will last for years (maybe). In heavily used areas, the trash returns the next weekend. Big thanks to groups like Keepers of the Kern who address the weekly efforts. In early 2020 covid days, I headed out to a creek a...
