Re: Good waders for hiking? Wading pants?

just pack in lightweight waders and put them on at your destination. With enough walking, you eventually wear out the crotch area and potentially other areas of waders no matter what. Try to minimize that by not wearing them in areas not on the water. source: walked many miles of stream in waders fo...

Re: CDFW Lands Pass...*??

The CDFW is getting less and less general fund monies in the annual state budget and are having to generate revenue any way they can. They have fees for just about everything now, to support their many different programs. I just managed the preparation of an EIR for a project and we have to pay a $3...

Re: Water, Agriculture, and California

That's my summer reading list, hope I get an A on my book reports. I'd still like to find something written to describe the siphon pipes and how they were engineered and operated. Not enough technical details to satisfy my search as yet. I know one was blown up in the 1920's, collapsed and re-opene...

Re: Water, Agriculture, and California

I would also recommend: The Great Thirst: Californians and Water- A History by Norris J. Hundley.

It's used in many graduate classes and well-regarded amongst water resource professionals.

If you really want to get crazy, there are some books on water resource economics...

Re: Sage Approach on Sale at Costco.com

FYI-Costco does this with watches as well.

They are not an "authorized dealer" for some of the (majorly discounted) watch brands they sell, but they have an amazing return policy, so you are getting a good deal.

Re: Boot Recommendations $80-$100

I've settled on Garmont as my go-to brand of boot. They fit my feet the best, and make a very durable boot, including lightweight hikers. I day-hiked whitney with a 2-week old pair of lightweight boots and had no problems as they just seem to fit my feet perfectly. I still have those boots plus a lo...

Re: Watch Out

I've come across a couple baby rattlers with my dog already.
This is supposedly going to be a big year for baby rattlers, who can't control their venom release.

Definitely get the rattlesnake vaccine for your dog.

Re: The "Posting Photo's" Thread

I think what gets a lot of people is that they don't realize they first have to upload their photos to a website such as photo bucket, picassa, flikr, or whatever and THEN link to the hosted photo in their thread.

You see a lot of broken photo links that start with c:\\

Re: Who wins Brown or Rainbow?

I only heard rumor of these angler's surveys people talk about. I've been asked to fill them out by game wardens before, but where I was told to look for them there were none. I have never seen them. I suppose one might be able to fill them out online? They are not on every stream, but they are out...

Re: Where is this?

I would like to know where this is. You and a lot of other folks.......! :) I wouldn't think the fishing there would be worth it after the Station Fire. I would give it a couple of years of plant growth before I would even consider going back there. I am glad to see some of the fish survived. :bana...

Re: Making a stripping basket

great thread, I made a stripping basket a while back for around $7. very easy to do. For all the DIYers out there, what is the best material to use for the "spikes" in the bottom? I had a bunch of those golf ball markers lying around and glued some into the bottom of my basket. They worked...
