Re: ideas on where to go

I take my wife to San Diego (4 hours from Bakersfield unless I-5 gets backed up thru LA). I fish San Diego Bay from my float tube and have a blast catching Spotted Bay bass and other salty critters. My wife enjoys walks on the beach and some of the hiking trails in SD County. My fishing is usually f...

Re: Top 10 Picks for Best Factory Flyrods of All Time

I don't buy and sell a lot of rods, and I don't even cast a lot of rods borrowed from others. So, I'm not the best person to chime in here. However, when I got a Winston BIIt in an 8' 3 weight a couple of years ago, I fell in love. I love the medium action, it casts like a dream and goes where I wa...

Re: Those evil rods that throw 3wt and lighter lines

I love fishing light rods but size (and lightness) is relative. I factor in the type of water I'm fishing, the type of flies and lines that help me effectively fish that water and then go as light as I think is appropriate for the average sized fish I expect to catch. I size my rod to the average fi...

Re: Fishing near Fresno...

End of May means stillwater time on the valley floor. Think bass, crappie, bluegill and carp in the lakes around Fresno. If you have time, you might also enjoy a drive up into the National Parks (Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia) and hit some of the smaller creeks up there. The big rivers (Kings, San...

Re: CA DFG New Reg's

the new regulation about display of lienses doesn't go into effect until March 1. Until then, you have to display the license above your waist. Here's how it's worded on the DFG website In December, the Fish and Game Commission voted to rescind the long-standing requirement that fishing licenses be ...

Re: where on the kern

Spend a weekend in Bishop, fish the Lower Owens. The Kern is too cold and too clear right now. It will be fairly hard to find willing fish and have a fun time on the Kern until the water warms a bit. If you can, call up David and arrange a float trip on the Lower Owens. He will find you fish to play...

Re: Buz"d Out

Okay so I finally reached the point in the journey where time and curiousity will alow me to begin fly tying. I made a deal with Santa and it's going to be an early Christmas for the family Friday because I can't wait. Now my Santa doesn't tye. In fact, my Santa is a girl. But what a girl. Armed wi...

Re: Hello All - New Member

Welcome aboard. I had to look up where Cobb, CA is. I found it and it doesn't look like we will bumping into each other on the local streams very often. That doesn't stop us from sharing information.

Re: LK winter insect study

Sounds like useful and very interesting stuff. I'd love to see the final draft. The only thing I've learned over the past three winters of chasing fish on the LK is that they like to eat flies that are too small for me to see. ;) ;)
