Re: Wading Boots?

I believe you should consider where you fish in the felt, no-felt category. I fish the East Side almost exclusively, Hot Creek, Owens & East Walker none of which have those snot covered rocks. I prefer rubber sole, one of the major reasons is most of the time I'm in my waders it's cold out, some...

Re: Patagonia Sling Pack

I'm in the market for a new pack. My question with the sling, what happens if you attach a net, does that come flying around with the rest of the pack. I've also been looking at Umpqua Ledges series waist pack, they have a shoulder strap that you can attach a net to & still swing the pack around...

Re: New fly rod and reel

Number one, I broke the first one several times. The tip broke trying to retrieve fly from tree, jamming it while walking(clod that I am) falling on it, ect. Do your homework, many of the rodmakers that have been around for a while have very good warranties, even in the price range you are looking ...

Re: Lightweight hiking shoes?

Keen has very lousy customer support / warranties. A few years ago while my son was working for a large sporting goods store and could get Pro Deals, he went onto the Keen Pro Deal site, the shoes he wanted had a list price of $0.00 - he called the rep # and discussed this with the rep & her re...

Re: Howdy everyone

When I was a kid in the 50's I caught a bird in the field down the street, I came running home screaming I caught a chicken! Turns out it was a pheasant, my neighbor tied a string on it's leg & me & my friend went back to the field to get him one. A man was walking his dog & he said &quo...

Re: Sunglasses Help?

I've been wearing Ray Ban Predator glasses for the last 15 - 20 years, same frame, every few years I get the lenses changed, perscription, polarized. The frames are bulletproof and their warranty used to be as good as the major rodmakers, haven't had to use it on my current frames. I also use perscr...

Re: Orvis Superfine Touch 8'6" 5wt. or 9'0" 6wt.

The Superfine series is a full flex line of rods. I bought a 7' 4wt for my son a dozen years ago & fish it ocasionally on Hot Creek with dries, very fun rod with a 16" trout. I wouldn't use it for nymphing or streamer fishing & personally fishing the sierras, I think a 3 or 4wt in the s...

Re: Fishing U Owens after rain?

The folding saw, great idea. One time I got stuck just 20 yds off the main dirt road, ended up using a small luggage bag under the tires, move a couple feet then get out & throw under again. Took me 2 hours to get that 20 yds back, never did go fishing the Owens that day. The bag got trashed.

Re: Lost and Found

I use one of these;
http://www.basspro.com/Rod-Saver-Vehicl ... uct/15989/
& yes I took a tape measure with me when I shopped for a new vehicle, it had to be able to fit a 9 ft rod. Don't know what I'll do if I ever buy a 10 ft

Re: the locals...some history...

Used to go up there when my kids were young. We'd put panniers on the bikes & the dads would haul the burley bike trailer with the cooler, cook stove & other essentials & camp out for an extended weekend, usually Easter. The daytrippers would look at us with a look of "How'd they ge...
