Re: Pinch those barbs down cuz.......

Which is why I wonder, in these days of Catch and Release why ANY trout type fly manufacturer would even MAKE a barbed hook or sell a barbed fly. I hope to see barbed hooks be the "extra cost, special order" hooks for the trout and small fish community. Even tying videos and photographic r...

Re: 80 year old fly reel.

That is ridiculous. Whoever wins (loses) that auction at that price just threw their money away.

Oh, and I have some "vintage" gear for sale too......... ;)

Re: Orvis Guide Sling Pack

briansII,

I quit sling packs cuz of the net issue. Never figured out carrying a net at the same time. How do you do it? I have a belt net holder by Smith creek and I use that a lot but the pack kept knocking it around.

Re: Marc Petitlean CDC Clips

I do use it for dry fly patterns mostly as I tie my nymphs really slender these days. I'm sure I'll find a good reason to try it on some underwater patterns.

Re: New rod for sure this time

I have a multi piece rod, 6 or 7 pcs. from Orvis. It's a 6wt which is heavier than you are looking for but, on the few trips that I have brought it on, I have really enjoyed it. Great for lake fishing in the Sierra. Now for stream fishing, I go with a tenkara rod of 13' length, a 13' tenkara line an...

Marc Petitlean CDC Clips

Where have I been? I tie a lot of cdc and have struggled with the best ways to get clumps, wings, and collars looking like I want them. I stumbled onto an ancient (2004) video of Marc demo'ing this product and I bought it... like 3:19 minutes later. Wow is all I can say. It aligns, stacks, clumps an...

Re: 2wt vs 3wt: Is there a difference???

Have you thought of a Tenkara? I know, I know but as a bit of hiker, I found that a 13' tenkara, with a bit (10') of actual, level running line from a 4wtDT, attached to a tenkara leader of 16' and a length of tippet got the bugs out there easily and it is a compact little set up for backpacking. En...

Re: Anyone use rubber soled Patagonia boots?

I'm gonna go with Brown Bear on this one, rubber works until it don't. All my boots have been Simms or Orvis but as many, I'll stud them until I choose not to. The issue with studs is that when dry rock hopping, it gets scary. I'd rather stumble in knee deep water than skid off an over-hanging grani...

Fly Fishin' kind of people

Just a thought, I met a great guy yesterday under the guise of selling him a piece of gear that I had posted. It was just so encouraging to meet a younger guy, who is a committed husband and father, who makes time to fly fish, who appreciates and lives his life with a purpose. I was just so encourag...

Re: Fishing Silk

There's a great read on overmywaders about recovering lines and making them usable again.

I on the other hand, have a half dozen plastic lines that have come on reels that I had bought. Should identify them and make them available.

Re: Fishing Silk

Well i don't know about a grand... I got the 4wt and 5wt for about $250 all in, used and already conditioned and supple. Now I'll find out how much extra care is involved during day to day fishing but unspooling,, drying, and reapplying the Otter Butter doesn't seem like a big deal and I'll see how ...

Re: How is it that new toys can make me so happy...still!

Well Jeb, Luckily we can compare the rods and see, especially with the plethora of available lines that we have between the two of us. I not only went this route because of the great deal but, a good bit of investigation based on opinions of some people I know and a lot of strangers so I'm good with...
