Fishing Silk

So I’m new to silk lines and have one on a sweet 4wt bamboo rod that I have loved with the Wulff long belly line. Once I put the silk line on, a Thebault DT4, the rod cast effortlessly. I may have made a mistake by only getting the shorter (15 meter?) length because I soon found I could cast the who...

Re: How is it that new toys can make me so happy...still!

Jon,

It is self serving in trying to direct people towards the Gear for sale/ trade area and I thought it might be offensive to some.

Wandering blues,
I do more than you suggest and those that I fish with and know on this board enjoy this immensely.

How is it that new toys can make me so happy...still!

Picked up a few new things recently, a silk line for my 4wt bamboo rod, Ebay'd into my life a sweet, Sweetgrass 5wt, got my buddy into silk lines, got a hall pass for a second summer trip (Fall River area) from my wife, things are good! Anyone else? And honestly, would like to encourage a trip to th...

Re: Fumed Silica - right kind or not?

I too use the fumed silica that I bought on Ebay and it works great. Then when one of my old Frog's Fanny bottles broke (I use it and its brush with the Ebay stuff), I bought a real Frog's Fanny to replace the other. Now it seemed to me that the original Frog's Fanny does a better job with CDC that ...

Re: Dapping.. uh, I mean Tenkara

With regards to the reel... It does help playing a bigger fish because with a Tenkara rod the options are to break off, break the rod, or let the rod swim with the fish whilest you run along side to grab the rod again when the fish tires... or lose it. So each has its place; first world problems. ;)...

Dapping.. uh, I mean Tenkara

Had a blast a week ago with a Tenkara rod on HC with unweighted nymphs. I used a bit of strike putty just smeared on the leader to help me keep track of the line and I found no shortage of willing playmates. Using a bit of weight for those few deep slots brought some of the bigger kids out to play. ...

Re: Tacky Fly Box

Got one just recently. Doesn't suck, stays closed pretty well, not waterproof, slender but doesn't crush most reasonable sized dries.
Replaced my "day's worth" Cliff box, small one with it.
Mary Poppin's purse is what I need in a flybox.

Shallow nymphs, duh.

Spent a few days up near Mammoth and on a local creek... I came to a wide, slow, glassy, section of the river and proceeded to watch some large and small fish grab emergers just under the surface. FINALLY the light went off and I tied on some unweighted and small bead headed nymphs, put no weight on...

Re: Poor Guide Etiquette

Last wednesday and thursday on the upper and the lower, there seemed to be a whole butt load of people on the water that were new to it. At the lower, as I rigged up at my car, the only car, on a turn off along chalk bluff, a "guide" in his truck drove up with 4 people and got out and hand...

Can no longer access the Kern River forums or the shop's website. Any news about this?

DFW encounter

Just got checked by a DFW Ranger on the lower yesterday. Glad to see it. Hooks checked, license checked, chit chat for a bit, all good. He walked a good ways to find me too.

Barbless flies

With the amount of Catch and Release going on (seemingly), and the proliferation of conserving our resources (speaking of fish), I am constantly surprised that fly tying companies and boutique tiers still sell flies with barbs on them. I just saw a famous fly fisher's (and conservationist) signature...
