Re: Favorite Line Weight???

Decided to go with 4wt for most of my fishing Joe Bradley 7.5' 4wt; snappy bamboo with loads of style and so fun to fish (Slow down!!) Sage LL 8.5' 4wt: most streams and mid size rivers, let's even small trout put a decent bend in it and can handle bigger fish really well. Hydros 9' 4wt tip flex: Fa...

Re: Helios or the One

Flip a coin. They are both great rods. Then consider the Hydros and the money you save for a rod with the SAME blank will buy you other things like gas, motel rooms, campsite fees, a reel or spare spool, flies or tying supplies, or really nice flowers for the woman you love.

Enjoy.

Re: Backpacking Stoves

Car camping: Jetboil
Backpacking: Trangia alcohol stove.
Less than 4 nights and I'm Freezer Bag cooking so mostly it's all about boiling water and back country brookies deserve a twig fire to be just right.

Re: Guide Reccomendation for the Upper Madison River?

Well the trip was great! I hired a guide named Nate through the Slide Inn; Nate runs Trout On The Fly guide service. We did the wade and float sections and it rocked. Not a high fish count but, I remember each one especially the huge brown that had us running downstream to keep up. The best results ...

Re: Members' Bio: Where'd you come from?

This is a great thread and I’ve been on here for a while and hadn’t come across it yet. Thanks for starting it. I grew in the suburbs of So Cal (South Gate and Lynwood) and my first memory of fishing is on a little bluegill pond in Illinois near to my Great Aunts’ house where we would spend some sum...

Re: hydrostop: has anyone used it?

I've used it on flies before they ever got wet and it seemed to help. I don't think it lives up to the advertisement but, couldn't hurt.

Guide Reccomendation for the Upper Madison River?

Hey friends (Ok, strangers)! I've been blessed with a vacation to the Yellowstone/Teton area and I want to hire a guide for a day on the Upper Madison, Slide Inn/$3 Bridge area. I have an idea of the shop that I'm gonna contact and hire out of but, if anyone has a recommendation, I would be really i...

Waterproofing a Steamside Leader

Hello friends, I succumbed and bought some lovely, long tenkara leaders. They are still dry and new and I was hoping that there may be an ideal way to waterproof them as much as able. One of the leaders is a Mystic Creek that is primarily furled thread material. The other is furled mono and I believ...

Re: Just for the record

No. Salmon would be the closest option. Eel needs to be cooked.

Re: Rod recommendations

Isn't Ross now selling an inexpensive but quality rod now? Don't know if you can check it out at your local shop but, I plan on looking into it myself. Also, I've cast the access rods by orvis... I know, I know but, it is a good rod, it is pretty darn fast, has a nice feel, not too expensive and Orv...

Just for the record

There are so many reasons why I fly fish but in the face of our media-age and after a couple of in person conversations: I started using a fly rod before "A River Runs Through It" although this movie and the internet made me much more aware of the amount of prose available within the subje...

Re: Furled Leaders?

Like so many of you, I enjoy them for dry fly fishing. My only concern is when I have too much tippet on the end and it piles when I want it to straighten out. Of course it could be my casting.... I don't usually use them for nymphing, I'll usually take the 5 minutes to swap out to a 90 degree set-u...
