Re: HC Ranch

I've stayed at the Ranch twice a season the last 2 years & I love it. Had some tough days like 2 years ago in June when spring runoff was the highest it had been in at least 20 years, Kevin had the "OK to fish nymphs" sign out, but it was tough fishing. The other 3 visits were classic ...

Re: Fishing the OTHER side of hc.

I'm all about not wading there and still chuckle pretty good when I see the wadered up guys heading down, it's like having a sign on your back that says "I have no idea what I am doing". I wear them in the winter, (mine are waist high, not full waders), keeps my rear end dry when I sit do...

Re: Fishing the OTHER side of hc.

There used to be a bridge just upstream of the Hot Pools, been a while since I've been down in that area. Back in the 70's I went there with my parents, crossed the bridge & mom sat on a big rock just upstream, glasses way down her nose pretending to read a book, but I know she was checking out ...

Re: Bird ID

Great story Mark. I remember having my wife drive me to the Provo from Park City, going by directions given to me by the guy @ the fly shop. We pulled into a parking lot wondering if we were in the right place when an Osprey flew by with a trout in it's talons. Must be the place!

Gear Bag - What do you use?

Thinking about a gear bag. Currently I use a small duffle with boots, waders, few extra items. Then a bicycle bag (kind that goes on back rack) for reels & related gear, then grab my rods. It's all stored in 1 place so it's easy to grab but I've been thinking of 1 bag that will carry it all. I k...

Re: Alternative for Air Bed while car camping?

I just read the description in Cabelas for the comfort bed that BriansII recommended - "Its insulation qualities also make it a portable cooler. Frozen game or fish rolled inside will not thaw out for many long hours" Don't know about you, but sleeping on something that just had fish rolle...

Re: Alternative for Air Bed while car camping?

[quote="1mocast"]John,
Do what Bob does, 2 pads!

Me too, closed cell & a thermarest, then if it's around freezing, I throw an old mex blanket over the 2 pads, get inside my synthetic bag & throw a opened up down bag over the top - toasty.

Re: Lanyard Question

I too used one in the past but gave it up for the reason Gabe said, didn't like clanging noise when I walked. Nowadays I see some have a clip to attach to your shirt to keep that from happening. Now I just use Simms Guide Shirt, it has a loop to attact a tippet holder to, cords on zipper pulls to at...

Only thing was it was tuff to tie in small sizes. Just tied a couple, but this t...
