Re: Stripper's Hand

Yup. Lucfish nailed it.

You want to talk FAST, try fishing for Atlantic barracuda, jacks, king mackerel, tuna and more. You just can't strip too fast, and one-handed won't cut it.

Re: Suggestion

We would need to allow fee based advertising, or create a membership fee to handle the costs. Sign me up for a membership fee if funds are needed. But if it goes to advertising you can probably color me G-O-N-E. I only populate ad-free zones these days, and I happily contribute to keep them that way.

Re: Suggestion

As to a FB page, you make it a private group with an admin approving members. I'm on a private fly group that I've put up content on that I'm sure you guys who are on FB would have commented on were you able to see it. In years past I moderated several photo-related forums. As already noted about o...

Re: Suggestion

Speaking for myself and most geezers I know, I won't follow onto Facebook. For my aged sensibilities, Farcebook is really obnoxious. A site like FFA is about as "social" as I get.

Re: fly fishing Bass

We never got around to fishing below the canyon, but second hand I've heard it can be great all the way down through the park and beyond. Last fall we launched our kayaks and fished Democrat with very good results tossing big rubber-leg Woolly Buggers in black or brown. Went back about a month later...

Re: Wigged out... (a vent session)

Don't just think in terms of warm waters. A few years back I was using my 9' pontoon boat on the bay we live on for coho and chum salmon. Had a dandy day and released a bunch, coming back to shore with two of each over 10# hanging from the side of my boat. Snagged a friend and went back out on the r...

Re: A GREAT float tube/belly boat

Truth be known, when the rivers are up and a little starchy for my old body, I'm wearing one. We also have a dedicated set for our fishing kayaks. Come to think of it, we have quite a few needing annual maintenance right now.

Re: A GREAT float tube/belly boat

Through my marine contacts I just got this terrific guide to the care and feeding of inflatable PFD's. If you've got one, good idea to read it. And bookmark it.

Re: A GREAT float tube/belly boat

Here is the extra inflation chamber you're looking for. Yep. That would make me feel 100% better about being in a belly boat. Thank you sir ! I'm on the hunt for one now. Check the marine supply stores in your area. They're common on commercial boats now. You'll see lots of variations and prices av...

Re: The continually evolving road trip machine

Very nice!

My brother's aim is similar, but the approach different. He has an Astro van sitting on top of an early 4WD conversion with only 60K miles on it. He's gone end to end with similar mods.

I particularly like his name for it: It's his MMC, or Mobile Man Cave. ;)

Re: Fighting butt question..

I hear what you're saying Richard. But my problem with using fighting butts on lighter rods has to do with "transitions" from fighting with the butt in my gut up into an overhead rod position for more flex and response if I hook a bigger fish and it goes crazy. Seems counter-intuitive, but...

Re: Fighting butt question..

Do I really need a fighting butt? I prefer a fighting but on 8WT and up, or on long rods down to 6WT. I have several 9' 6WTs with fighting butts too, but I don't recall ever needing the butt. Probably reflects the way I fight fish. As for butt-hooked fish? I break them off the moment I see they're ...

Re: Sage X

Last season I downsized from 9wts to 8wts for some of my striper fishing. It was surprising that I could immediately feel the difference in rod and line weight. I ain't getting any younger, and if it makes my day more enjoyable.............. Glad I'm not the only one. Last spring I did all m...
