Re: Solar Panels For Backpacking

So those things work even when can't get a cell signal? Cool. I had no idea.

Re: Solar Panels For Backpacking

Do your phones even get service when you are up there? Me I would need the Garmin GPS with all the bells and whistles and one of those GPS locator devices to get me out alive. But the phone? I don't know.

Re: Landlocked salmon

I suspect that there are many rivers closer that fish just as well. That is some beautiful country up that way and in the Fall, that will be amazing. I love fall fishing. It is one of my 4 favorite seasons for fishing.

Re: Landlocked salmon

I fished for them in the Rapid River and the Magalloway. They are a ton of fun. On the rapid all it took were Golden Stones and hang on. Seriously we all hooked up on every 3rd or 4th cast. If you get one over a foot long on a 5wt, you are in for a huge fight. Have fun and tight lines.

Re: Poor Guide Etiquette

Well there is something to the fact that many of these "rules" are not written anywhere and vary to some extent based on the region, the river and the species you are fishing for. For example when salmon fishing in Pulaski, NY this is perfectly acceptable and same goes for steel head in Er...

Re: Poor Guide Etiquette

It sounds like HC fishes more like an eastern river than a western river where people expect a thousand yards or more between fishermen. I remember the first time I fished HC, a gentleman commented that I was 'supposed to pick a spot and stay in it.' I told him if a spot wasn't producing and someth...

Re: Poor Guide Etiquette

Thats a tough one, I've been on HC, Upper and Lower and had people jump a pool ahead of me. I had a guide bring some clients right above me once on HC as well. I live in the Inland Empire, so for me its a 6 hour drive to the Upper/Mammoth, its hard to drive up that far and arrive at a stream where ...

Re: Hooah- The Army Update

That was the nice thing about Air Force basic, the only gas I had to deal with was coming from the bunk next to me.

Re: New fly fishing TV shows

One of the better episodes of FFtW was him fishing with his dad. You really got a look at his fishing roots. It is a shame that Barrett Productions seems to have closed up shop. They produced some of my favorite shows.

Re: New fly fishing TV shows

I watched a couple of episodes of "Shorelines" and it is well done and interesting info about salmon and rivers I'll probably never fish, but I enjoyed learning more about what's going on. I also watched the first two episodes of "50 Places". The first episode on the Letort/Litt...

Re: Memorial Day

I had an Uncle that piloted the landing craft at Normandy. Every time I see something about that day, I still cannot fathom what it took to do it.

Re: Flybox Labels

If I found a box with a name and address I would get it back to them, I am sure I am not alone. Actually, I think most flyfishers who found a flybox with a name/phone number on it would attempt to get the box back to the owner. I didn't mean to imply that they'd keep them, but I know without the la...

Re: Flybox Labels

20 plus boxes. I feel so inadequate now. Yeah, but you can only fish 2-3 flies at a time--the key is to try to have the "right" 2-3 flies and sometimes this requires more flies to be carried so you can find them. BTW, I rarely have more than 2-3 boxes on me while fishing at any given time...
