Re: Small Stream Leader

I agree with that: a leader/tippet combination about the same overall length as my rod is sort of my benchmark.

Re: Small Stream Leader

I have long been a fan of about a 4-5' furled leader + tippet on small streams - Usually about 18" of 6x. I've had no problem getting furled leaders with tippet rings for about $7 delivered off Ebay. Makes life so easy, just carry some tippet (4lb. Trilene XL), those furled leaders last years....

Re: Park/Trail Closures

I was thinking of heading down to the beach after the water clears, but I think the state beaches (and some local) here in Carlsbad are closed. I know I took my motorcycle out and rode up to Oceanside Harbor, looked like the cops were closing the parking lots. Not sure which beaches may be open, sin...

Re: Posts

It's been slow here and the surf fishing boards. But, it has been pretty cold this winter, although our rain seems to have petered out after a promising start. I'm headed back to my little creek in Baja in early April, so I will try to remember to take some photos (hopefully) and post a report. John

Re: One of our members has been robbed

If you download the "app" for your bank to your phone, they usually have a function to enable Zelle. All I needed was Jon's phone number and I sent money within seconds. It's not "black magic" after all. For you "Boomers" that don't know what an "app" is, well...

Re: Mammoth, Early Season ?

Can you reserve more than 6 months in advance? I can't get a permit for Cottonwood Lakes opener (July 1) until January 1 at the earliest.

We got lucky and stayed at Lake Mary one time, really nice spots along the north shore.

Re: Inflatable Raft/Kayak recos

Lots of saltwater down in SoCal to access by float tubes or kayak's. Maybe a Hobie with Mirage drive?

Re: Another Homemade Rod Vault

Great work, Dave! I wondered about the styrofoam melting just before I read your story. Interesting how surfboard foam can handle the resin, yet a very similar compound cannot. Nice finish work too, very sleek.

If you need to clean up resin, acetone is great.

Re: Line Recommendations

Interesting. I've been using the Allen Flyfishing line on my 3wt and it looks and feels the same as my SA Mastery line. I was looking at their (Allen) premium line, which looks just like Rio Gold but $20 less. I'm not very knowledgeable about the intricacies of lines, and I have no idea what to expe...

Re: Line Recommendations

Okay, so I'm about the pull the trigger on a 5wt TFO Axiom 2 rod. I have some Amazon points to purchase some new line as well. I recall Mark (flyaddict) mentioning Rio Gold as pretty good line. Would that be a good match for my new rod? Looks like I have a place to stop/stay in Sun Valley, so the W...

Yes, that looks like my best option. Just heard from Redington, no custom orders.

Re: Wading Pants Fiasco

What size boots are you? Size 8 shoe, 5'8" 160 lb, 33 waist", inseam 30" Those 8-10 size booties just suck, especially because I'm paying money for something that doesn't fit. I won't do that. I ordered those Chotas for $38, we'll see what they look like. I already bought some wading...
