Re: Schaefer Fire

In the Forks area, there was diminishing smoke yesterday and no plumes. The helicopters were busy.

Sherman Pass road is closed past the Cherry Hill road turnoff.

The Lloyd Meadow road was surprisingly quiet.

Schaefer Fire

The Schaeffer fire started as a lightning strike in the McNally fire burn area. For a while, the acreage was under 100 acres. The fire moved into unburned area and things changed dramatically. Today's report showed acreage increased from around 4,500 to over 10,000 acres. If you are planning any tra...

Re: Braided line.

I was setting up a new rod for carping, so I dug through my inventory so I didn't have to wait to try the rod and setup. The shallow end of the lake was pretty trashy so braided leader and fly line got a little dirtier than I would have liked. The only problem with using braided leaders is the foret...

Re: To much Snow!!

I have been using the Inyo NF website to get information about road and campground openings. Since I reserved sites above Mammoth in the past, I was sent information and campground projected openings by CA Land Management ( the vendor that operates the sites). The website gives information about a p...

Re: To much Snow!!

Papasequoia,
If I was at the area, I would be checking ice depth and casting for the open water.

The geocache will take a lot more shoveling now than it did during the summer.

Nice information update.

Re: Opening Day - did anyone venture out?

Nice looking trout! Those stream shots look familiar. If the stream is the one I am thinking, fishing is year round. I remember being there with ice on the stream and icicles from the seepage in cut banks along the stream. It seems snow would not be likely unless it was a northern exposure and shelt...

Opening Day - did anyone venture out?

I know the fishing options have been limited by huge runoff on some waters and ok flows on others. Then, there are the crowds! Not to mention, who wants to hike through a snow pack and icefish on a high elevation lake? But, did anyone get out? My opening day routine was providing support services fo...

Publication to consider

My preference is to have maps for searching for areas to fish and hike. The online information is used as a supplement, but when you are on the trail, the online sources are usually absent. I stopped at one of the USFS Ranger stations and was told about a booklet of maps. I liked and bought it ($24....

Re: Turd Clumps

I don't think any IGFA records will be set with them.

So, you may want to consider latex gloves when you handle them.

When it comes time to re-tie a fly, you may want to think about submerging the fly into the local water instead of licking the knot with your tongue.

Re: Guiding

Hi Jim,

There is nothing wrong with speaking out for your services.

I also appreciate your post with useful information such as the big increase in flows on the E. Walker.

Your website was bookmarked. Thanks for your help on this forum.

Gee! Guide and * both have five letters in the word. At least a * profits from her (usually) personal assets, instead of public assets.

Re: Colorblind test

Jon, To respect your starting this thread, sorry that the enhancement option wasn't more useful. The index system probably pays big dividends. My fly selection practices follow attractor patterns, but fly color and size are probably down the list for priorities. Now - back to the hijacking on this t...
