Re: HAPPY 4th OF JULY!

Happy Independence Day to all.

As for fishing, a new 5-wt Czech nymphing rod was tested in an AZ lake. The bass was surprisingly small while the catfish was surprisingly big. My 16-inch net wouldn't hold enough of the catfish to make it worthwhile to get it wet.

Re: Bridges

I keep in mind the Civil Engineering challenge when I go fishing - that is, catch fish while standing on, under, or near a structure built by Civil Engineers. In nearly all instances, those are great places to fish. There is little doubt that it will take the place of reality TV, but the options are...

Re: Fished the Kern... Lost my net... caught fish!

Sorry to hear about a lost net, but from my experience the net accumulation of fishing gear seems to be in the plus category. Glad to hear that the fish are still cooperating. If I didn't have a long trip to Prescott today, I probably would have poked my nose to see if it could be found. Here's hopi...

Re: New to FlyFishing any advice appreciated

A few decades ago, typical ways to learn about fly fishing were reading books, hiring a guide, and / or joining a fly fishing club. Recently, the addition of videos has offered more possibilities, but being a 'reader', I find videos less informative than books. Here is my plugs for books. Books give...

Re: It seems to take several forums to get the story

As for the title of the posts, if forum posts are deleted, then it may take several forums to get all the information. I think from the comments on this forum, you can easily figure out which forum gives an edited picture.

It was a state of mind when I initiated this post.

Re: Information that is too good to share

Oops! I guess my initial post was confusing. Basic question - is some information too precious to share with anyone? Not asking for the information, but rather the keeping of the information to yourself. It is likely my question is too subtle for a very sensitive topic (as well as a poorly phrased t...

Information that is too good to share

I've been doing too much yardwork so my mind gets to wandering. The fly fishing community is pretty gregarious and sharing - but, only up to a point. The general public get a dose of general information. Regular fishing buddies get the benefit of a lot more experience and learning. However, is there...

Re: Same Trout - Multiple Takes? Multiple Landings?

In response to same fish- it happened for me over 2 days on the San Juan River. Day 1 resulted in broken tippet. Day 2 resulted in fish landed. Hey! It took both flies. Wait, one is the fly from Day 1. Obviously, this occurred in same location. Otherwise, sometimes fish have battle scars that are di...

Same Trout - Multiple Takes? Multiple Landings?

I wonder if others have information to add. Many times I fish the same waters, so I know what trout (or other fish) are there. A larger trout makes his presence known by surprising me by its size, and breaking an undersized tippet or revealing a poorly tied knot (or one that should have been retied ...

Re: It seems to take several forums to get the story

Where is Bodfish? It is one of the small unincorporated towns in the Kern River Valley. If you are driving up the canyon from Bakersfield, it is the first town you go through. If three letters in the town where changed, the name could be FlyFish - the only town with that name in the US. Since the ne...

It seems to take several forums to get the story

Howdy Y'all, I bought a place in Bodfish over a decade ago and didn't start fly fishing until 5 or 6 years ago. It seems like I better learn fast or I will run out of time. The Southern Sierra Fly Fishers have been very helpful to inch me up the learning curve. One of my better learning decisions wa...

Re: 9 more days!!!

Retirement - now that is a grand idea. I was lucky and retired 9 years ago - with more time than money. There is a lot to me said for retirement when you still have energy and health to follow your dreams. It took 4 years of retirement before I discovered fly fishing. Of course, I was distracted by ...
