Re: The Name Behind the Monikers:

Ants is obvious.

However, the name is not a nickname, just the Estonian version that corresponds to Hans, Ian, Juan, Sean, and John.

Re: Simms Wader Support - spoiler - it was good

I bought one pair of Low cost Simms waders about 10-12 years ago as my first waders. This was my second no cost replacement. Each time it resulted in a slight upgrade.

That certainly makes me a happy customer!

Simms Wader Support - spoiler - it was good

My freestone nylon waders were slightly leaking. Finding leaks in non-goretex waders takes more effort. After a day of wading, I had wet spots on both legs. I contacted Simms customer service for their suggestions to find leaks. The response was to turn waders inside out and fill with water. The use...

Re: My first time playing with a critter cam

That looks like fun!

There are probably lots of surprises near and far from when we are not watching.

Is there underwater version to document fish behavior?

Re: Fish and Migration

Fish travels are amazing and mind boggling. On one trip to Vancouver Island and British Columbia - (observations in chronological order in June). Near Campbell River, nice water but essentially no fish since they had not arrived. Some holdover fish near a hatchery that were likely escapees. Mid-isla...

Re: Small Stream Leader

Here's some useful information on the Leader Links thanks to Jeff with the McGill Wright version and the three new types available. The Wright-McGill in orange color and Leader Links in clear and fluorescent (orange) are all essentially the same size with a 0.038 diameter hole for fly line and leade...

Re: Small Stream Leader

Thanks Jeff. I look forward to another fly fishing detail getting a better solution than what I did in the past.

Re: State considering "putting a halt to fishing"

The DFW notice specifically said a total ban was not under consideration.

But, things change quickly......

I guess this as good a place to put a photo of today's observation (9 April). As you pass through Riverkern along the N Fork of the Kern. My comments are being held for obvious reasons.

Re: Small Stream Leader

The leader links seem to offer many advantages of tied options with uv coating. The loop to loop connections have never been satisfying with lighter / smaller lines. I use a furled leader often, but got reminded about two limitations. When casting in the wind, the furled leader get blown much more. ...

Re: So Cal Report | 03.15.20

I wish I had taken a photo, but the most drastic color variation was on the same fish. The fish had a specific spot for its lie. The location was under a dam. The forward half of the fish was dark to blend in and camouflage. The rear half was bright and shiny like a steelhead. There was a sharp line...

Re: Lockdown Posts

The Kern River Valley is socially distant under nearly all circumstances.

The landing net conversion was tested yesterday. It worked, and worked, etc.

Re: Park/Trail Closures

I took out my social distance measuring tool (9 foot fly rod instead of 6). No one came close enough to be warned or measured. I saw 4 other fishers and two were folks from Kernville. There may have been a dozen vehicles with campers along the river. No signs of any closures. The ranger station has ...

Re: Posts

I know that I am guilty of not posting as much as I should also. Lots of excuses, hassle to load/host pictures, Facebook is easier, I really haven't been fishing as much, ect. I truly believe that a major contributor to the board slowing down is the way that we have restricted ourselves. I mean the...

Re: One of our members has been robbed

Sorry to hear the bad news, but glad we can participate in some good news.

Papa, I will send some money by way of PayPal. Yes, it is dated, but I am reluctant to set up a new way to transfer money for a single event.

Thanks for coordinating the friendship effort.

Re: Tanuki Tenkara and general tenkara comments

When I take a regular rod and a Tenkara out for fishing at the same time, the Tenkara gets seldom used. However, for the 3rd time, I fished it again. There was some situation where the long reach was useful, but the overhead clearance takes a while to get used to. It was cold when I started with ice...
