Reel for TFO TiCR 10wt?

Postby WadeK » May 20th, 2013, 1:25 pm

During a business trip to Houston, TX I dropped/fell with my rod and broke the reel I had on it. I didn't much like the reel, so it's not a great loss. Now I need to replace it before chasing Leos in the surf and/or Calicos in the Kelp in the not too distant future (Time and Location TBD). Unfortunately $ is an issue so I'm thinking used but I don't have a clue what I should look for. $150 is about the max I can go and I'd prefer <$100. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Wade

PS Admin., I put this here to get the most views but, if you want to move it to the Salt or Gear sections, please do.
I fish for my sanity. If I catch it, should I still practice catch and release?

You might look around on Ebay. A used item is going to be your best bet.

A used Lamson should be in your price range. Reliable, sealed drag. They also have great customer service if you need it.

Any particular Lamson models I should look for on E-bay or elsewhere and reccommended prices?

Thanks in advance,
Wade

You might want to check out a Pflueger Trion reel. I use mine on Pyramid Lake, all of my Carp fishing and what little Surf fishing that I have been able to do. (Not many oceans up here) I have not used the 9/10 wt but have countless hrs on the 5/6 and the 7/8 wt reels. You can find them for around $100.00 and extra spools for around $40. Drags are sealed and they are very easy to take apart and keep cleaned. BobK

Just checked out Ebay and there are several 9/10 weight Trions available for $95-110.00 new in the box. BobK

The Konic is their cheapest model, but has the same basic drag as the more expensive models. There's the Guru, and the Velocity models that are less expensive. Since they have slightly changed models, you should be able to pick up a discontinued model on the cheap. I own two of the older Litespeeds. They have been workhorse reels. I believe LeeB, uses Lamsons in his guide business, and he does saltwater trips.
