My first day was a good one. The daughter and I took the Rhino (4wd quad kinda thing) to the end of a 4wd road and then hiked 3 miles into a lake near where we're staying. This lake had a great stream coming in and a nice. fishy stream exiting the lake. we didn't fish, but reports tell me the lake has some nice fish and the stream also contains brookies and cutthroat.
I didn't realize this was the opener for bow hunting elk season and we ran into a hunter going out on the trail. He was happy as he'd got his elk at daybreak and we chatted for a short time. HIS ONLY CONCERN WAS THAT NOW THE WORK REALLY BEGAN. Hunters know what he means. Fortunately this is a trail that allows mountain bikes and dirt bikes and he had the latter to help him with the carryout of the quarters.
There was an excellent couple of camping areas at the lake. I'll hit it next summer.
I then came back and fished for a couple of hours for a bunch of small rainbows and cutties, and a few larger cutthroat. Nice start to the weekend.
