A heads up to you beach fly guys!

So Cal Surf's premier event takes place this coming weekend. Details below per Al's press release.

Enjoy!

The One Surf Fly Beach Classic

The mission of the One Surf Fly is simple; to create a casual beach event where fellow and passionate salty fly rodders can champion their sport, have fun, make new friends, support local fly shops, and protect our oceans and natural resources through the support of local non-profit organizations that directly impact our resource.

The event is FREE! All participating anglers are required to know how to fly cast and asked to supply one surf fly. Just one! All flies are recorded and dropped into a bag. We begin each 3 hour event by calling up each angler by the order they signed in, to pick one fly. They must fish that one fly. If they lose the fly they are done.

"I created this event over seven years ago, to bring our saltwater flyfishing community together to share ideas and help mentor newcomers to our sport!” - Al Quattrocchi

There are three awarded categories: The angler and the person that submitted a winning fly are awarded. First fish, most fish and largest fish. Trophies are provided by a local fly shop and awarded to each angler after the event where we have an amazing raffle through donations from all of our sponsors and fly fishermen. Ninety five percent of our raffle goes to help support the chosen yearly non-profit organization. Our sponsors this year include: Abel, Orvis, Sage/Redington, Flymen Fishing Co., Dennis Harper, Enrico Puglusi, Olson Visual, Rio, AFTCO, Scientific Anglers, Airflo, Echo and the Southwest Council, Federation of Flyfishers, All non-profits help support our oceans, adjacent river systems or individuals with special needs. Each raffle usually raises over three thousand dollars. These are some of the non-profits supported in the past events:Heal The Bay, Trout Unlimited’s Steelhead Restoration Program, The Matilija Coalition for Steelhead Restoration, San Diego Coast Keepers, Project Healing Waters, Casting For Recovery and The Land Trust of Santa Barbara County.

This years’ OSF will be at Mission Beach in San Diego on Saturday May 2nd. We will support our good friend Shane Chung, who passed away last year leaving behind his 9yr old son Devon and wife Kimberly. Shane was one of our supporters and organizers of past events. This year’s raffle will support a college fund for Devon from the OSF and all his dad’s fishing buddies. For more information visit our blog at www.onesurffly.com or contact Al Quattrocchi at alq@tornadodesign.la

Note, can't make the event but wish to contribute to the Devon Chung fund? There is an ebay auction. More here: http://bit.ly/chungauction.
