Fishing Along the 99

Postby Jim T » May 14th, 2009, 2:48 pm

I'm headed up towards Turlock at the end of the month to fish Kelsey Bass Ranch and would like to stop and do a little fishing along the way to break up the drive (will be taking the 99 once I pass Bakersfield). Besides the Kings and San Joaquin, are there any places worth stopping for a few hours within 30-60 minutes of the 99? I'm interested in stillwater (any size) or moving water, any species of fish.

PM's welcome for small waters but openly public bodies of water are fine as well.

A few lakes come to mind. East of Visalia is Kaweah Lake. Northeast of Madera is Eastman and Hensley Lake. All are on the small side, as lakes go, and easy access to some ok fishing for bass and planter trout. Closer to Kelsey you have some options, but that won't help break up your drive.

Have a great trip!
