July Fish/Pic of the Month

Postby RichardCullip » July 20th, 2009, 6:49 pm

July is winding down and I volunteered to to be the guest judge for the month. Post your best fish picture and/or best picture that captures the essence of fly fishing. Please, only one entree in each category and each picture needs to have been taken during the month of July (this year). Thanks.

Ray, I don't know how you do it, but you take some of the most awesome pictures of insect. You should publish a book or sell them to National Geographic or something. Very professional pictures. I want your camera.

I think this will be my fish of the month entry. It is quite simply the prettiest brook trout I've seen from any water. Plus, he rose to my fly at least 8 times before finally getting it in his gob.

How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

Here are my submissions. For fish picture I submit this one entitled PB & Golden because there's nothing like peanut butter and jelly with fresh grilled golden trout. :o No, no, pb for personal best, of course. I have no idea how big it was, because I didn't measure it, but I know it was far bigger than any golden I have caught in the past, and the biggest I caught on this trip, and nice colors as well.

For best fishing-related picture, I submit Fluffy Slipper and Lake: Variation on a Theme. :D For me it conjures up fishing, backpacking, beautiful scenery, relaxation and good friends.

I don't think I've ever had a good enough fish pic to submit to this contest, but now I do. I really loved the way my camera captured the colors on this 14" brookie.

Ray, very cool pic, and Jon, that's an awesome golden!!

Wow! Some great photos. It's going to be hard to select the best of the best, but I'll do my best. Here's a bonus photo (I'm assuming the guest judge for the month can't make an official entry)

Congrats to all participants. Some great photos submitted this month. Here are your winners

Papasequoia's stunning Golden trout

and Benny's High Country Creekin'

Honorable mention goes to Ray's incredible close-up (just a bit too scary for me to select it); Craig's BIG BIG carp (sweet fish but I couldn't get past the look in your eyes, Craig. ); Darrin's awesome brookie (it was nosed out by a golden, sorry Darrin); abarbs30 with his nice brown; theokieangler's UGLY catfish (ugly does count around here but it was trumped by beauty this time around); Papa's fluffy slippers picture (there's just something fundamentally wrong with fluffy slippers on a backpacking trip ;) ;) ); Mike with a nice 14" brookie; and, finally, last but not least, my fine San Diego Bay Spotted Bay Bass photo (too bad I was ineligible for this month's contest. :( :( I could've won it. I could've won it ;) ;) )
