You're not going to find many places where there will be a lot for a nonfishing spouse to do while the fishing spouse fishes. Either interest her in fishing or take trips by yourself. This has worked well for my wife and I for a good many years. I don't go to beauty salons, many shopping trips, girl's weekend at the river, etc with her, and she doesn't go to Bishop with me.
We tried the fishing part years ago. Not her bag, and one big rattler on the McCloud
, and the rest is history.
If you go to a place like Mammoth (definitely over 4 hours from Bakersfield) she could ski, shop around town, and there are nice restaurants you could go to after fishing. It can get expensive though, as most resort towns are.
Good luck figuring out what works best for you.
"Should you cast your fly into a branch overhead or into a bush behind you, or miss a fish striking, or lose him,or slip into a hole up to your armpits-keep your temper; above all things don't swear, for he that swears will catch no fish."
