Something interesting I saw today

Postby Artin » March 10th, 2010, 11:22 am

This morning I stepped out of my office to get something from the car and noticed again... yes they were mayflies... Now the funny thing is that my office is near the LA river. This has happened once before. I didn't see them up close this time, they were swarming but not in the same numbers as before. Maybe they were more of them earlier and I caught the tail end of it.
Also saw a hummingbird eating them. I thought it was pretty cool.

The last time I saw them they were just hangin' out on my car. Probably attracted by the heat from the engine. There were both male and female trico's. Let's fish the hatch

Just thought this was interesting.

I've seen mayflies in riverside too, also at work... we're right near the Santa Ana, and it was neat to see...
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

Ya, they're a rare breed. They live on concrete, asphalt and breath smog :bananadance: . I know, I know...I'm just another smart butt from the central coast :booty: .

Artin,

A friend of mine told me yesterday, that he has been hired for a new commercial- to be shot in the next week or so - that will feature ...FF in the LA River...

LoVELy!!Im glad I bumped into this thread I live near the S.G river I get a crazy hatch every now and then.I.D.K a old timer told me that the bottom stretch of river adjacent to our home was left untouched my Army Corps of engineers when it was built back in the 30's.So it is natural run off and sediment down there with the dead bodies and carp some where?

Hey I bumped into this article....
http://ovnblog.com/?p=1611

Pretty sad... The fact that there has to be so much talk about what to do and how to go about doing it is a given. But while they were deciding, bickering or what ever they do...all it would have taken is to send 2 guys with a net and a couple of buckets to get the "endangered species" out and placed into another portion of the stream with more water. Could be the same stream lower downstream. I don't know.

Any thoughts?
