Chris, yeah those were some sweet lookin flies. Also a fun name to throw around in camp. I have yet to track down those jig hooks, seems no one on the other side pours their own lead heads anymore, all those 90 degree hooks I've seen already have some kind of jig head on them.

My favorite streamer is unfortunately not always the most effective (but it does work well). It's nothing more than some bucktail and a hook. The simplicity of this primitive fly or "lure" always makes me chuckle when fished successfully. That said, the "less than simple" bugger variations and more complex Circus Peanut type flies remain hot in my book. A recent thread elsewhere on this board re: Galloup's flies had me mention a planned local trek with small and "halved" versions of the C. Peanut. The fly I like to call the Ridiculous yielded numerous chubby browns. See: http://www.thetrouthugger.com/ for the report. On a related note, I get great satisfaction from dead drifting streamers deep. It's a humorous irony since one often associates streamer fishing with imparting action. Ok ok ok yeah yeah throw in a twitch or two and let it swing at the end but you know what I mean

The big name conventional hook companies make non weighted, 90 deg., jig hooks. Mustad, Eagle Claw, Owner, Gamakatsu, ect..... Do a search for aberdeen jig hook.

1. Black midnight chenille.


2. Same chenille but in olive with red angle hair mixed in the front hackle.


3. Much smaller but deadly.
