I was wondering if anyone has met someone like I did this weekend. I was minding my own business on a nice stretch of pocket water when This fly guy comes stomping threw the river toward me. He stopped to ask me about how the fishing was. I told him I caught a few nothing to brag about. I was about to say what fly I was using when he cut me off and proceeded to school me on how the fish were taking only nymph with a 5x tippet which he considered super light tippet and the dry fly action was dead because he had tried a caddis with no luck. He then told me the countless number of fish he had hooked this morning using a nymph in the deeper pools. I have been around the river for a long time and I have seen them come and go but this guy really cracked me up. I should have been angry about the way he just stomped threw my fishing area but I'm have come to the conclusion that I fish to relax and have a good time and nobody is going to blow a good day on the water for me. So I asked "wow sound like you were on fire this morning how many have you caught"? He puffed out his chest and said "six!!" My reply was "six fish in a half mile of river is outstanding"!! I was going to keep probing him for more insight on the fine sport of fly fishing but I think I herd enough.
I had caught all my fish on a Caddis dry. 7x tippet, fishing the the pocket water. I had caught 5 fish just in small run when he ran into me. This fly guy has a lot to learn. Have you ever ran into "that fly guy".
