Frog do you have the same problems that the English have about most the streams and creeks being private waters? I'll be checking out the French site. And like Curtis said if you make it all the way to Cal. You should have no problem getting some of us to join you for some fishing .

Yes 90% of the trout waters are private (First category as it is called).
BUT each town or village,more or less, as an association that take care of the rivers .In order to fish in the county,village rivers you have to buy a licence in that town .
BUT 90% ot these associations have to be part of what is call a "Federation départementale" like a state in the US but smaller of course,that is already around 500 km of creeks and rivers ,not all good fishing waters of course .
AND there are 95 "fédération départementale " in France and about 50% of the fédérations are together in some kind of National Fédération
You can buy a licence for one Fédération (one "State" ) for around $100
You can add a extra taxe of around $35 and that gives you 50% of France

In any case you are always on private land .

BUT some of the nicest spots are not part of this ,more $$$$.
All together it is not too bad

Thanks for your insight to waters on the other side of the pond. Real interesting how other countrys work in regards to there fisheries. And like Eric and Curtis said any number of us would be glad to fish with you.I'm sure that you will have plenty of fishing partners when you come to Calif. Luc

Welcome to the board, I'm sure you have a lot of info to sort through but once you get a couple areas you think you really want to visit I'm sure more of us can give you some better information on more specific waters/locations. This is a good group of people here with a lot of good information as well.
