Grey haired, curmudgeons???..RE-boot...

Postby planettrout » July 12th, 2011, 2:16 pm

I came across this today while gliding through the ETHER and believe that THIS might be the SOLUTION for us greybeards who are becoming weak of eye and less nimble with our appendages...

THE GATEWAY HOOK...PHOTO: CASTERS FLYSHOP (NC)...

And yes...alcohol might have played a part in it's design and creation...

http://gatewayhooks.com/history/

They have even come up with a TM'd knot for attachment:

http://gatewayhooks.com/knots/

AND, an adapter for your conventional ring eye hooks!!!

http://gatewayhooks.com/notieadapters/

For you Fly Tiers, there are the hooks at $8.25 a pop per. 25 count...

and for those who don't tie...a complete line of patterns:

I've got a feelin' that these products will revolutionize Fly Fishing...just like THIS did:

Shoot me if I ever go there and make me listen to this while 'yer doin' it:

Even if you pulled the line through the gate and then tied a traditional knot this would be a lot easier than trying to thread a #20 nymph with 6 or 7x in low light and wind...right?

Have you tried them? Is that your picture or theirs?

Let us know how it is, if you try it. For the first time ever, it's a ***** threading a small dry fly at dusk! I got the magnifying glasses, but anything under a 16 is pretty tough to threa  d.
Set the hook!

There's only one solution. And you're only fooling yourselves if you think that there's anyway around it. Embrace it my friend, just like the depends that will embrace your body in the near future.

OUCH! Tough crowd!

Well I made it to 11000' with 45lbs.......but I could not thread my tippet through a #22!

My guess is that the boomers are going to be coming up with more "Aids" as necessity deems.

thanks for the encouragement PT!

I've had good luck in low light with the Orvis Big Eye hooks. A 24 has the same eye as a regular 16. They really don't seem disproportionate, and don't drag dries under.
