Contest

Postby Benny » December 5th, 2011, 3:55 pm

Hey guys, as some of you know I have been putting out a photo contest for the last three months. I really enjoy the photos the participants post up. The thing is, I would like for everyone on the site to have an opportunity at winning a prize. I know some of the guys might not have the time to get out and fly fish as often as others do. The photo contest was to inspire you guys to get out and fish and take some photos in the process.

I know we can't always get out and fly fish on a regular basis, I know there are guys that fish up to twice a week, and then there are some that can't get out but a couple of times a year. Well I'd like to offer everyone a fair chance at winning a prize like stated earlier. I'm looking for a contest idea/ideas if anyone can offer some up.

Some input would be greatly appreciated, there are lots of members on here and I'm quite sure some of you can think something up. I just received a shipment of twelve fly boxes that should tide us over for 2012.

Anyhow, some monthly contest ideas please...

Thanks
Benny

Benny, love what you're doing, and I like the photo topic. Maybe expand it to 2 months to give people more time to get out?

Also, how about, "fly of the month" tying contest?

Arvin, I had thought about a fly tying contest too, but I think it would be sort of limited to only the guys that tie flies so I was hesitant about it. The two month photo contest sounds good as well, give more time to get out and flog the water... hmm

Thanks for the input.

Benny,

I am amazed at your generosity. Thank you for taking the time...

How about specific subject photos. One month can be best looking fly photo - it could be self tied or store bought, then one month can be reels, then one month rods, bugs, feathers, etc.

You can also go Black and White, or themes of Green, Blue, Red, etc.

Thanks again!

Perhaps an end of the year, " Best Photo of the Year" contest to add to the monthly one, which would allow that group access to the contests too. I really enjoy it Benny. Thanks for hosting it for us!

I like it the way it is - (and I'm not just saying that because I usually get to fish at least once every month either. :D ) I just think it is pretty cool to see what everyone is out and doing each month and the pictures they take. I know that is a disadvantage for those that don't get out that much, but maybe that will be an incentive. ;) Or you could split the prize and award two pics each month - one fishing related and one anything goes, all the rest of the rules are the same (must be taken that month, minimum photoshop, etc.) One pic gets the box and the other pic gets the flies. Just a thought - but I do like it the way it is. Kudos for getting it going again! Jon

Like the others, sure do appreciate you doing this Benny. It really adds good mojo to the forum.

I humbly ask for "The Worst Photo Of The Month" contest. I'd be up to my eyeballs in fly boxes! :bananadance:

How about themes? Particularly this winter when it's likely no one is getting out, you should allow for old pics. For instance, of you threw up "Red" as a theme, guys could show red spots on a brownie, or a bow gill plate, or red leaves from autumn, or red in a fly...... So long as it somehow ties back to the addiction.

Okay guys, I have been giving this some thought and have decided on two month photo contest.
For instance the photo contest will run as follows with the same rules as before.

Starting 2012
January-February
March-April
May-June
July-August
September-October
November-December

I believe doing it this way should give ample time to get out and fly fish and shoot a few photos as well. This should also hopefully help increase the participation in the photo of the month/s contest.

Another idea I have is for fly tiers... this would be more of a raffle of sorts. If you want to participate you'd have to tie up 17 flies to fill up a row in the fly box that's going to be given away. If we could get 24 tiers that would be the limit since there are 24 sections. That's a full fly box 400+ flies! I will put all the participant names on a small piece of paper, fold it up and put them in a bowl. I'll have my baby boy pick a name out of the bowl and that would decide the winner of the full fly box with all the flies of the participating tiers.
What do you guys think?

Anymore suggestions, let me know.

Thanks
Benny
