NIMBY

For topics that don't seem to have a home elsewhere.

Curtis, this is a terrible situation for sure. Wish you and your family, and not to mention all the nearby residents luck with what seems like a really tough battle.

After looking out off your deck on Saturday, I'd be * if I were you.

Just a thought....

Work the environmental angle as hard as possible. Get as many agencies involved as possible.

If you find out that the native bug eyed spotted wax wing purple beetle is being displaced, call somebody.

Work that "rehab within 200 yds of the school" angle. Call the San Berdo Co dept of education and squawk.

If you can get someone to verify that the developer is doing something illegal or un environmental, call KABC for a return trip.

Find out what the regulations are in regard to work hours and start stop times. Start too early make a call, work too late, make a call etc.

Find out if there are any dust restrictions, debris restrictions, leaking oil restrictions etc and make them conform.

Get the neighbors together to hang some kind of FU signs off their decks to let everyone know how you feel.

I'd be the biggest PIA as possible. This thing sucks. Being surrounded by 6 man bunkhouses full of sketchers isn't my idea of mountain living.

Feel sorry for you guys, it won't be a safe place anymore. Some where down the road those homes will be sold as single family homes.

If the builder altered the streambed, you could get the Army Core of Engineers or even your California Fish and Game involved. They would at least make him comply with enviromental laws and pay for an enviromental impact study plus remediation, which could cost him plenty.

We have those entities involved, plus the State Water Board. They have issued restoration orders and may start fining soon.

And just to be clear because I sometimes get a head of steam going without slowing down, I don't have any disdain for folks with addiction issues who seek help. I've experienced it on both sides of my family and with close friends. These homes, however, are purely cash cows for owners who stand to make up to $36k a month per home, funded by us, the tax payers. There's little interest in recovery. In fact, recidivism runs at about 93% in these facilities

Even our local Al Anon leader has come out against these homes.

Curtis,
I’m not suggesting you break the law, but I bet a few of these would solve your problem!

There's a facility like that on my route and I'm sorry to say, they don't look like the more upstanding people. I've left packages there and, knock on wood, they haven't made a claim so maybe they aren't so bad, but to have them next to you home is another matter. Sorry to hear about them moving in.

Heck, make sure they see you in uniform a few time a week. That will put a little fear of God into them should your fight to stop it be unsuccessful.

Not a bad idea at all. This really stinks. $36k a month huh? what a waste of tax money. I am sure the owners are really concerned about the tenants. I mean there is no incentive for relapse of course.
