I struggle to pay that kind of money for a graphite rod, I can have a custom bamboo made for that price or a little more, or just look for a good fiberglass or older slower action graphite for a lot less money. At least for the a boo rod, I know I am paying for many of hours of time, craftsmanship and artistry, like those of Doug Daniel and Pete. Or I can just wait to buy the Sage One or Z-Axis of the guy who itching to get the 2012 version of the newest, hottest rod out there.

Here's what I love: Sage had the XP( a really great rod) , turns that over for the BEST THERE IS z-axis (another great rod!) . The Z is off the table and the new ONE is the hot ticket. It's all laughable with technology making better rods with more forgiving action. Spend the money on fly casting lessons, get a guide or take a trip.

I've got a smoker that made some excellent burgers tonight, along with 2 large chickens and 4 sausages. It still had room for more. So when is my first lesson?

....and with all the above said.....including my comments. What other choice does Sage have. Year after year they can continue to make the XP, RPL, LL, or other now discontinued rod, and let all the other rod companies pass them by. Yes it sometimes seems like they do it just so they can raise the price of their rods. And yes, many fly fishers gobble it up.....me included. Sage did not get to the top of the food chain by building the same rod, with a new paint job. They know their customer base, and feed them what they want....or think they want. I'm guessing TFO is gaining ground though. BTW, personally I don't think Sage's direction is "faster is better". That may have been the case/perception a while back, but seems like they made an effort to change that., BTW, BTW, I think makers use the term "fast" too much, and it's now watered down to the point of being more of a catch word, than accurate description.

I really like my Sage One and am pleased to have got it (sold my MTN bike to do it). It'll be with me a long time. Gotta say, though, the TFO BVK at $225 was a mighty fine stick when I tested it.

Between you and Rick, I could get fat and drunk pretty quick. Well lets forget the fat part, I think I'll have to take credit for that one myself!
