Passing of Westlake Dave

Postby Sasquatch » July 19th, 2016, 6:17 pm

Hi All,

Been a little while since Dad and I have fished much or put up a post…
Still, the Old Man made quite a few friends here and over on the Kern Board. Thought it appropriate to advise of his passing.

“Westlake Dave” left us Sunday night after a COURAGEOUS battle with lung cancer. I am so proud of the fight he put up, and the good humor he kept, until the very end. He was my Father, my fishing buddy, and my hero. I am going to miss him terribly.

Memorial Services will be held:
2 PM, July 31st
Westlake United Methodist Church
1049 S Westlake Blvd
Westlake Village, CA 91361

Wow, I am really sorry to hear that. Never met him in person, but definitely have come across his postings over the years. I wish you and your family the best in a really difficult time.

So, so, sorry to hear this. He and I met through the Kern board and I drove with him to a fly fishing meeting in Ventura, just last year.

He never mentioned the cancer, but did talk my ear off about you and your brother! :-)

He loaned me some fly fishing CDs, which I returned to him when he called me and said he was moving.

He was super proud of the both of you, and even as just a casual acquaintance of his I feel the loss.

We get back on the 30th from the east coast, I'll try to make the service on Sunday.

Best,

Andy

Sorry to hear this.
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

I remember sharing some time with both Dave and you on some of the Addict get togethers on the Owens. I think we even shared some fried meatloaf....one of my three menus.

You Dad was a classy guy....I could see that the first time we met and throughout the years, in the way he would conduct himself on the forum. How lucky you were to have him for so long. I lost my Dad in 1974 and miss his counsel to this day.

Brandt
Again sorry for your loss.
One of the post from your Dad that I think you will really like

My photos didn't turn out so good, so don't wanna' embarrass myself with sticking 'em all in here, but here is one of my favorite fly fishing topic: my son.
ImageThanks for draggin' the grumpy ole man along Brandt... I had a blast

Sad news, indeed. My condolences. Enjoyed meeting you guys at the first KRFF rendezvous and ever after that would get an occasional PM from your dad when he particularly liked one of my reports. He will be missed by many.
