There are several important "quests" fly flingers attempt to achieve in their lifetime. One of these "holy grails" is a 20 pound steelhead on the fly. After 40 years of searching I have finally obtained my quest. Just got back from the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, and landed this beauty from the Bogachiel River. Measured 39.5" X 20.5" inches (why yes, I taped it myself to ensure accuracy, and for non-believers the opening of the custom wood net is 42" in length). I'll let you work out the math, but using my favorite formula (which happens to be the biggest!), that works out to 23.7 pounds. And this fish was not the only hog landed during our four fishing days, it was just the biggest. Full report with serious fish * to come in a few days once I go through nearly 750 pics!
And I wasn't the only one to obtain the quest. My buddy Dan with a 21.7 (38 X 20) from the Sol Duc River. This is only the third steelhead Dan has ever caught!
