Fishing the OTHER side of hc.

Postby Devinpreston » April 2nd, 2013, 8:53 pm

So I fished hc this weekend and it was a mad house, there were people everywhere. When I made my way down the canyon I saw these two guys fishing on the other side and I have always thought it was just edicate not to fish from the other bank. What are your thoughts on this? I know you can't wade at hc but I believe you are allowed to cross the creek.

People need to stay out of there . you don't need to cross that creek to fish the other side.

Not sure how one can cross the creek without wading......

Some folks just don't get the memo.

I've fished both sides, but my program is to fish at dawn til I see people, then leave. Combat fishing holds no appeal and it wouldn't be right to kick up silt for the guy below you.

There used to be a bridge just upstream of the Hot Pools, been a while since I've been down in that area. Back in the 70's I went there with my parents, crossed the bridge & mom sat on a big rock just upstream, glasses way down her nose pretending to read a book, but I know she was checking out the skinny dippers!

Fact is if your wading and going to the other side the weeds get easily dislodged and that volcanic silty bottom will ruin fishing for anybody 200 feet downstream. The creek is 20-30 feet wide, you can effectively fish 95 percent of it from the one side and the other 5 percent, practice and you'll get that 5% too.

I emailed one of the area guides on this subject. I don't remember exactly what he said, but his message was clear. If you can't cast/fish the other side, you need casting practice. And NO WADING.

No reason to cross this water. Plus I'm pretty sure that there are signs stating this.

A couple of years ago I ran into some duck hunters at Hot Creek that were wading through the water with shotguns and beers. I just kept my mouth shut. Firearms + alcohol = not good.

Wading is heavily frowned upon, but not illegal. To each their own.

No wonder you can tie flies so well, you've been doing it since Nixon was in office.

That is a great attitude Anacrime and Rob.

So Lowholing, holding fish out of water for a long period of time or putting them on the ground or snow for a picture naming small streams on the net aren't illegal. So each his own?

It is fantastic that you feel that way when it comes to something that is meant to preserve a resource that is used by thousands upon thousands of people each year.

Just because it is not illegal, doesnt make it right.

Please consider changing your attitude about this topic.

My statement doesn't reflect my attitude, thanks though.
