Read this 1997 article about the Law Enforcement folks on the Angeles National Forest to get a glimpse at what they are up against. It will give eye opening insight in the cultural and social issues that continue to vex efforts to curtail them.

The difference between then and now is that they have lost personnel that have not been replaced and the call volumne has doubled. I worked with both individuals when I was on active duty....both were great to deal with and assisted our department many times.

Yeah, but isn't this OUR land and OUR taxes that pay for it? I understand the need to wait to gather evidence to present a bulletproof case, but at the expense of everyone's recreation and safety? It sounds like the word is pretty well out, and that people are consciously avoiding these spots rumored to hold illegal operations. It really * me off to not be able to fish where I want, and to have the threat of violence/death in the back of my mind while I do. Can't they just raid this place? Get a SWAT team and the National Guard. I'd pay for that...

I agree Joe, I don't intentionally run across these places but would never let it inhibit where I chose to fish. I have had only one close call in my excursions, and that was in Norco along the Santa Ana river while fishing for carp. We found a Meth Lab in the bamboo. Had a hard time sleeping after that one!  :o j/k
