That's what I've heard, and that it's almost like idiot fishing. My experience tells me that these trout are smart but all my readings say they're dumber that a door knob.[/quote]
well... not so fast..
Ive ladder fished it 5 times and it can be a tough place to fish.
and is rarely a super wide open bite.. like any place it is all about timing there and one day its great and the next day or days it can be dead..
however like others have said, the weather there is the big deciding factor on success as it can be brutally cold with killer WIND.
I have had 8wt line blown right back into my face and seen guys almost washed or blown off the ladders..
but that said when the stars align, it can be awesome and you could catch some of the largest trout of your life..
just have realistic expectations that not every trip there will be epic..
but if your willing to pay your dues and watch the regulars, even on slow days you will learn a lot.
One thing I have learned there from experience and watching others is to use 7-8 wt
10 foot rods.. really helps on the ladder.
lord willing i will be healthy enough to go again, it opens this friday oct 1st.
