No old photos... Only images from March 2012 and April 2012 will count.

Darrin Terry wrote:Artin, if you want to check out some more great photography, look into the Dgrin.com forum. You don't have to be a member to look and there are a great many very good photogs there. The first HDR pics I saw were on that sight a few years ago. I don't think HDR is a technique used by sub-par photographers per se. It's just another tool to achieve a certain type of look which cannot be had through any other method. It's kind of like a modern version burning and dodging and saturation work which used to be done with film. Different but some of the same ideas happening to pull detail from areas which otherwise would be either blown or blacked out.

Just a tool like any other. When used by good photogs the resulting HDR images can be incredible. Again though, I don't think it's appropriate to this situation.

Darrin, I was at Sammys Camera on the west side, you know the big building on La Brea (I think) that place is HUGE! Any way. This was a while back. I had just gotten a D5000 Nikon as a gift and went to take a look at lenses. So I was talking to one of the sales reps for a while and one of the complaints she had was that now a days with photo shop type software not so good photographers are able to skip the really tough learning curve and pretty much skip learning how to take good shots. Same complaint came from the photographer from my wedding. This guy is good. I was referring to that. I think that although it has it's place and the pictures come out extremely nice. It takes away from photographers who put in the miles and take great pictures. It also is not good (in my opinion only) that it may take away from new photographers learning how to get the right shot when they can just use software later on. Again, I agree with you that it has it's place and is necessary sometimes I also know that with a few minutes of messing with my Mac I can make my amateur pictures look really good! (I kinda like that hehe)

Taken this past Friday at a local farm pond.... Loved the colors in the cheek of this one - who knew BG had purple on them? :bananadance:

Cool pic. Love gills and the purple is too cool. Love how the iridescence changes from sun to shadow like that. :D
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

One of the things I like about this contest (besides looking at all of the great shots) is that the focus is on cool pictures that we get just being out in the field. It does not have to be a magazine quality shot (necessarily), it does not have to be something that was enhanced in post-production with photo software. Just a good shot of something we can all relate to. That means it gives those of us who are not amateur photographers a fighting chance at a winning entry. Being colorblind, I am afraid to do ANYTHING with my pictures, from basic color adjustments to whatever that other stuff is you guys are talking about. What you see is what I got with my Optio W20. But, some of them turn out pretty good because of the background content that we all get to deal with - when you're outside, on rivers, in the mountains, in the midst of nature we all get a chance to get off a nice shot now and then. Like they say, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn from time to time. :D
