Floating with Big Foot

A day on the river, oh boy!
First we unpack, then deploy
Greeted our guide in flip-flops?
Supplies were stored chop-chop

Among tules and sedge
Off a short sandy beach
His arm offered & staunch
Drift boat was launched

Yellow dog and three folks
Pushed off with strong strokes
On a clear chilly rivulet
Through the overgrown thicket

Round one curve to next
Till a deep run we met
Latched with armful of rushes
Our boat offered perfect perches

Leaders tied and flies tended
Our casts carefully blended
Under branches on velvet current
We follow their gentle movement

His gaze is intense
When we mend perfect drifts
And indicator thumps a shift
His speech sounds rapidly tense

As he anticipates the take
Screeching “Set the strike!”
Rod bends to swarming trout
Both guide and girl shoutout!

It's not every day we're graced with prose
or photos of big toes
one thing is true and must not be discussed
my attempt at poetry basically sucks!

In all seriousness, thanks for your works. I was a bit surprised to encounter poetry - but really appreciate being able to experience both nature and fly fishing in an unexpected way this morning.

Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds. —Charles Dudley Warner

Bigfoot tried to get me to wet wade last time I was up with him. I told him he was crazy, but he still wet waded. I was happy I had my waders that day as the sun dipped behind the Sierras and the wind picked up.

Ha, ha, ha! You probably made the wiser choice. I hope your feet are, at least, prettier than David's?
