Orvis Superfine Touch 8'6" 5wt. or 9'0" 6wt.

I am trying to decide on my next rod purchase. Does anyone have any experience casting or fishing either the Orvis Superfine Touch 8'6" 5wt. 4pc. or the Orvis Superfine Touch 9'0" 6wt. 4pc.? I do not have any Orvis stores close to me, so I am trying to gather some information from other people's experiences.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The Superfine series is a full flex line of rods. I bought a 7' 4wt for my son a dozen years ago & fish it ocasionally on Hot Creek with dries, very fun rod with a 16" trout. I wouldn't use it for nymphing or streamer fishing & personally fishing the sierras, I think a 3 or 4wt in the superfine would be a better choice. It's not an all-around rod.

Since I started using 4wt.s a lot, I skipped up to 6wt for my "big" rods. I have soft and stiff 4wt.s which I use 90% of the time and when I want to launch streamers or reach out consistently to 60+ ft or so, I pull out a stiff 6wt.

So my question that I had to answer was do I need a delicate 6wt.? And I my answer was no.

My favorite dry fly 4wt is a Sage LL, semi-slow and good in a breeze. My faster Orvis Hydros 4t. is typically what I use first but, the bamboo 4wt (Joe Bradley) is a delight to fish with dries. My Helios 6wt launches the big things far and fine.

I really have come to appreciate the Orvis products over the last few years.
