The Mrs. just came back from the OC Fair and showed me these photos!
Our famous net crafter Greg Madrigal had a couple of his nets up for display in the Woodworking Exhibit.
And took some honors!

Congrats to you Greg!

Thank you sir Bob! While it wasn't the award I was hoping for after last year's First Place and Judges Choice awards, I am happy that they recognized the work that went into that net. Competition was definitely stiff this year!

You are the man, Greg! Regardless, that net is THE best custom net made in 2016, and I'm sure 2017, 2018 etc will be the same.

I would love one of his nets, but the way I fish I would bang them up in no time.
Brodins last me about 5 years and then I have to get a new one. Right now my current one is 3 years old and the scale is building up on the wood frame. I should know how to clean these frames up, but I usually just buy another.

Jimbo: I can tell you the wood is seasoned so well, they are hard like rocks. If a Bodin lasts you five, Greg's net will last 15, three times as strong. He uses a wood, I think it's called wenge at the yolk, I've seen the wood in its raw form and it is like a rock, it is that hard. It keeps the net from breaking there. Nice job on the the honorable mention Greg.

Thank you Luc. Barring you lose or have it stolen as mine was recently, it should last even longer. They just need a little TLC once or twice a year. Jimbo, Thanks for the nice words. I make nets where you'd barely notice the dings and scratches-By using stabilized wood. Besides, a touch of oil or wax practically makes scrathces disappear. If after 5 years, it gets beat up pretty good, my nets can be refinished to like-new since everything is inlaid. So you can sand and sand and it will be the same as when it was new.

Thank you DarkShadow! I did a walk through with the judges who told me that I almost took 3rd, but there just wasn't enough 'carving' on my net to place in the Carved Utilitarian Category (The closest category that my nets fall into.) They did love it though, hence the HM ribbon.

Thanks again ALL!

Greg, that net is stunning just like all your nets. I was wondering are you competing against other net builders?
