Fish ID?

I caught this in the Waupaca River in Wisconsin last August. There were hundreds of these little guys rising to any fly they could fit their mouths around.

Some kind of shad, maybe?

I'd say its a minnow of some kind. Like a chub without a stripe...
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

I can't see the mouth. But it looks like a fall fish. Which I believe is a form of chub. Was it making a sucking sound?
Denny Crane: Ah. You can see them in there. Look at the crystal clear water. My fly went right by his nose. Eat it you picky *.
