She had a smile that lit up the room and blue eyes that sparkled like jewels

She had an amazing way of communicating with animals, kids, and people

Most who know me think I am never at loss for words. I am today. I have tried since Tuesday to find a way to express how devastated we are with the loss of my wife of 48 years in a tragic accident at our Quail Ridge Ranch. We moved to Wrightwood on our wedding day in November 25, 1972 and she has been a part of this community ever since. I can say that our family has been overwhelmed with with support and love from all of those who knew Chris. I can also say that our Fire Department and the staff at Desert Valley Hospital ER worked tirelessly at great length but it was not to be. I would like to share what our son, Josh wrote, so eloquently on behalf our family. Information on a Celebration of Chris's life will be forthcoming soon. Thank you to all who have been so loving and gracious in an amazingly difficult time. Jim Wilkins

Josh Wilkins

I wanted to thank everyone for there amazing, compassionate help and kind words over the loss of the most amazing woman I have ever known...my Mom.

On Tuesday, July 30th 2019, we lost my mother to a tragic accident at her Ranch in Wrightwood. She passed with family at her side along with amazing group of men and women that tried valiantly to try and save her.

She was our rock and guiding light in so many ways. An amazing mother, wife, grandmother, sister, daughter, friend and horse whisper that always knew how to make it better. I will never forget her humble, happy smile, warm hugs and positive influence that has shaped my family's life, and those that were blessed to know her.

I still am struggling with the fact that she is no longer with us as I have so much more to say and share with her. She survived 3 separate cancer fights along with many other physically challenges, all with a smile and an amazing attitude. I know she is watching over us now and catching up with her brother Pete, childhood friend Nina and a full stable of horses like Cinnamon, Cinbad and Buttons.

To my Fire Department Family:
You have been nothing but amazing. From the crews at Station 10 and Helicopter 325 that fought so hard to save her to Battalion Chief Kenny Halseth and the CARE team that covered every possible need during our time of grieving and the ER Staff at Desert Valley Hospital. They all went above and beyond in every way and still continue to support us in her memory. I am so humbled and proud of all of you. You are all family to us and I can't thank you enough.

To anyone reading this:
Please go give your family a big hug or at least a phone call and tell them that you love them as life is short and it is the little things like this that will be missed the most. Do it right now.

We hope to have a date and location soon for her Celebration of Life Service.

Jim, Josh, Amy, Kathy, Dakota, Sage, Tanner

Jim, I remember sitting in our trailer with you when Chris was dealing with cancer. The depth of your love for her was right there, on your sleeve, as raw and real as could be. I’m so sorry and only wish I could be there to give you a hug.
