One Rod, Ten Flies

Picking a (only one rod is a no brainier) the Winston 8’ 6” 5wt WT. I could fish that rod all day long. It is great for dry Flyfishing and works super for nymphs. It will toss a size 24 Trico on a spring creek with a light touch, or throw big hoppers 50’ across the river to the far bank in the wind with pinpoint accuracy. I don’t toss streamers and never will. Its reminds me of lure fishing with spinner gear. As far as flies go, I like general attractor patterns. If I make the right presentation and the fish are feeding I’ll catch fish! But if I had to Pick 10, I would at least have these in my box.

1. Parachute Adams
2. Sloan’s Caddis Paralizer these work everywhere!
3. Any stimulator , used mostly for suspending a dropper
4. Pheasant Tail in different colors and sizes
5. Copper Johns, same as above.
6. Zebra Midges Dittos
7. Prince Nymph
8. Biot tail hot shot
9. Royal Wulff
10. Birds Nest

Given that I only have one working rod right now, the rod would be my TFO Finesse 3wt 4pc.

Flies:

1. Spongebob Caddis, sz 14.
2. Rubberleg stimulator, sz 10
3. Adams (standard) size 12
4. Parachute ant, size 14
5. Zug bug, size 12
6. BH Brassie sz 16
7. Griffith's gnat, size 16
8. Parachute adams, size 14
9. GR Hares ear, size 14
10. Parachute Hopper, size 8
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

I hope it never comes to it but i could probably pay the mortgage for a couple months and a couple more if i pond the tying stuff too...

The rod I would pick is my 4wt 9foot Z-Axis with Galvan torque reel. Great all around set up but will be a little too much for the creek. It has enough backbone for throwing nymphs and streamers and is still fun to throw dries with.

For the flies top 10
1) #18 parachute adams
2) #16 olive elk hair caddis
3) #20 cdc bwo
4) #18 glass bead bwo emerger
5) #16 bead headed zebra midge
6) #14 bead headed rubber legged copper john
7) #8 olive matuka
8) #10 brown punk perch
9) #6 double bunny leech
10) #12 rubber legged stimulator

This is a great thread! I'm using it to build a list of rods to buy!
