Snow in the desert

Postby Papasequoia » August 29th, 2009, 4:21 pm

Wow, either things are getting really, really bad down in the LA area, or it is just a wind shift, but all the way up here in Ridgecrest we have smoky, yellow skies, the smoke smell is getting stronger all the time, and now there is some light ash starting to fall. It hasn't been this bad in town here since the fires up in the Kernville/Kennedy Meadows area several years ago, and they were a lot closer. I can't imagine how bad it must be south of here. I'm guessing that this must be from the Station fire which looks like it is still only 5% contained. http://inciweb.org/incident/1856/ Here's hoping that all of you who live near the fires are safe.

Here in the AV the sky is shinning that yellow glow on everything from the fires. Ash is falling everywhere and I'm not sure it's from the fires down below. It does not seem like the size of ashes we are getting could be comming from the other side of the hill. Some of the ash is so large that I can even tell that they are oak leaves.

I'm in Arcadia and it looks bad. Most of the smoke is going over the mountains toward Antelope Valley. Can't see any smoke from Azusa anymore.
