Fly Fishing Clubs

Postby jazz on the fly » February 22nd, 2010, 12:55 am

Anyone out there a member of a fly fishing club? If so which one(s)? I'm a member of Streamborn Fly Fishing Club and just joined Fly Fishers Club of Orange County.

I'm in several clubs: Long Beach, Orange County, Sierra Pacific, and Southern Sierra.

They each have their strong suits and I enjoy something different from each: speakers, tying, casting, outings, etc. Besides, since they meet on different weeks, I can get my fly fishing fix each weeek when I'm not actually fishing.

Rick Haefle will be discussing Emergers at the next OC meeting. I'll look for you there.

Hatch, Point well taken. This board is definitely a great "club". I was mainly asking because I was hoping to get to know some more people from the board face to face as opposed to just the internet. Jim and Tom, I look forward to meeting you guys at the next OC meeting.

The Kern River Fly Fishers. The club has been active for over 40 years ; we meet at the Norris road Veterans Hall in Oildale (north of the river for locals) We host speakers at most meetings , have a website at http://www.kernriverflyfishers.com , and meet at 7:30PM on the first Wednesday of the month at 400 Norris Rd. The club has an active mentor program for people new to the sport (read addiction) and have a calender of outings. Come join us at our next meeting !

I almost joined that club since they were on my way home from work, but that is no longer the case. They have a nice little clubhouse and casting pool down in the lower arroyo seco. Their website makes them sound a little snooty, but when I went down to their clubhouse during their posted hours the people there seemed pretty welcoming to new members.
