Im living in Bakersfield, spent the first 25 years of my life in the Russian... I know that river like the back of my hand... lots of hidden beaches using an alley between houses as access!
If you make it up there this next winter, let me know... I might be able to help you out...
the most productive holes I have found is one called "summer Bridge" and a little known spot near the Hacienda bridge. Wohler Bridge used to be productive, but its float boat city now.
Guerneville has some productive runs, but the river is deep and wide in this area, great spot of a drift though...
Or try at the mouth of Dry Creek (my favorite spot when they release the 1/2 pounders from the hatchery), or Cazadero creek , or casini's ranch...
Western outdoor fly shop on Santa Rosa Ave... ask for Carlo.
