New Rod Test Drive

Postby beachbum » June 13th, 2010, 7:00 pm

Yesterday I went to the Fisherman's Spot to cast a couple Winston Rods that I am interested in. The 9 wt rod I threw with a Sharkskin line was a line shooting cannon. I played the Winston rep like a big fish, to see how much muscle it had, and it would work for salmon, but maybe should be bigger for fish reps. After I finished, Ken reminded me to enter the raffle. Thanks, Ken!

I got a voice mail from Steve telling me I had won a new Winston Vapor 10 ft 7 wt rod. Today I picked it up. Dave at the Spot showed me a veratip line that was on sale, and I couldn't resist. It took me 20 minutes to tie two nail knots, put on a leader, and fly and jump in the water.

Even with the wind 40 ft plus casts were a breeze. I fished my usual spots without a hit, but I can tell I like it already. It's in the backseat of my car, staged for this week.

Sweeeeet!!

Congrats on the new rod. What a sweet deal you got at the Spot. Now, go out and catch something big with that new rod.

Very nice. Congrats! Hope it provides years of smiles.

I have a 9', 7wt, Vapor. It's been my workhorse, LMB rod for the past few years. It's been battered, beaten, and neglected, but still hauls in the fish. I seriously abuse this rod, and I haven't broken it.............yet.

A hearty congrats! I'd love to get into saltwater flyfishing, but I currently have nearly 2 dozen rigs (from 2wt fly set up to Avet JX with a 30-50# jigstick) in the garage. My wife would shoot me if I brought home anything else!
