Fall is here.........

.....and the water temperatures are dropping with the much lower evening temperatures. We've been dipping into the low 40s up here already, and daytime temperatures are staying cooler. Granted, the flows are very low, but there are a lot of fish swimming in the local streams.

I got out today for about an hour or so to check conditions. Here's a water temp taken at 11:00 AM today:

I threw a dry/dropper for the hour or so I fished and brought a number of fish to hand to be quickly released. Here are a couple of shots to show you that fish made it through the dry summer:

I don't fish any of the local streams in the summer due to raised water temperatures and low water, and so I generally don't start fishing them again until mid to late September after the temps have dropped. Well, it's here. ;)

Good news indeed. Nice work.
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

Nice Mike. Love that UW shot. We're spiking in temps here in the SJ valley right now, but should start cooling again by Tuesday. I am hoping to get a few more days up in the sierras on creeks before the season ends. Glad to see your locals are doing ok.
How do you tie the fly to your hooks without killing them with the thread? I keep cutting them in half.

Wow, what a great underwater shot. It's good to see that some of the trout have made it through some tuff drought conditions. I'm hoping we get a better than average snowpack this winter.

Thanks for sharing

Great shot! Glad to see them fishes looking healthy. One of these weekends we need to go up and do a little more research.
