So There I Was.....

Postby WanderingBlues » June 28th, 2010, 8:10 pm

As I walked down to the banks of the beautiful Eel River, flyrod in hand, heavy with anticipation, I heard my wife slip and fall. Rolled her ankle and got some Redwood Rash (like roadrash, only caused by an exposed redwood root). Needless to say, no flyfishing on that absolutely stunning free stone river.

On the bright side, we just finished dinner at the Eel River Brewery in Fortuna. A huge two thumbs up. Tomorrow, we'll be in the National Park. I plan on testing the waters and will give a report later.

Well, that sucks! Sorry to hear that and hope your wife is feeling better. Stuff like this tend to go into the column of adventure. The fishing would probably blend in with a million other trips, but now you have a story you will likely not forget. A good dinner helps too.

No blood? No bone sticking out? Leave her a water bottle, trail mix and leave her lay. You can always come back and get her :bananadance:. Hoo boy, can that get me in big, big, big trouble . Called it a day? I guess you did the right thing. Ya, you did.

Hope she bounces right back

So sorry to read that your wife took a fall. Hope she's better. I'm sure she felt bad about you not getting to fish the Eel.

Bummer man, hope the sting in the ankle was the short-term type.
Fishing is the most wonderful thing I do in my life, barring some equally delightful unmentionables.

Curtis, sorry to hear that. Hope she has a fast recovery; it's a bummer to be hurt when you're out of town.

She's all taped up. I did soak a line in the Smith River today. Saw some fish-no takers. But, wow, just incredible scenery. Beyond my expectations.nDrove from Cresent City to Medford today. Really, a special drive.

I need to get up here exclusively for fly fishing.....
