Older Guy

I was replying to a post and I reffered to myself as an older guy. 1st time for that. So I thought I would start a thread on the advantages of being a older fisherman.

In the past I could always rely on my youth to get me through a fishing tournament or a tough fishin day to end up catching some respectable numbers. These days I think about the younger guys having that advatage on me. When I was younger I would push myself hard to keep going and going. Though the pain and the lack of bites. Now it seems much tougher to motivate myself. The only advantages I can think of now is experience and money to buy more and better equipment. And with flyfishin I have little experience and not so much money (till the kid get out of college) Don't get me wrong. I don't like to compete while fishin it makes it to stressfull and takes the fun out of it. So I no longer fish tournaments,but I belive most of us dont like to be outfished.

So what do you think?

You could just fish with guys who are older and aren't as good as you, and than you'll never be out hustled or fished!

I dont think I can find many that arn't as good as me cuz I kinda suck at this point.

I dont mean to make it all about who catches more or less fish but maybe the fact that we have less responsiblity with no kids at home or being able to take an RV with us to make it more comfy. I dont know maybe its a stupid thread and I'm just bored at work cuz its slow.

The advantage of being older is not even wanting to rush and push so hard for the numbers. I can now enjoy the scenery and just being there a hundred times better than I did in my youth. I think it balances out and most of the time it's even better.

I have been fishing with guys that have me by thirty years or so for the last four years and I find that it isn't all about catching a ton of fish or covering miles of water but to just be able to go fishing with guys that you truely enjoy fishing with and if you do happen to lose count of the fish you caught, well thats just one more thing to give Eric a hard time about over dinner.

That's me a lot of it is just the time spent on the water. And over time you'll learn. At times they just won't feed.
Just like a full moon. They spend most of the night feeding. And during the day fishing can get pretty hard.. So I just got where I won't fish during a full moon. But these things will come in time for you. I feel thats what makes it such a grate sport. If I had all the answers I'd quite my day job and write a book. But it's just like any thing you'll have to pay your dues. But don't ask me I'm over 53 and everybody knows us old guys lie about it all the time. If I told you I caught 16 fish. It's probably more like 2

I like that Gary. I think thats the direction I'm headed in.

I find as I get older I make my fishing trips days or maybe a week or so long so I can fish when I want and take days off to relax and get good sleep. For some reason I sleep good in the wilderness.

Completely agree Blu.

I also find my liver and head can only stand a couple trips a year where it's just us younger guys, there's always a lot of booze involved, hardly any sleep and then we hike like crazy and fish even harder. I come home totally exhausted like I had been partying in Vegas for a weekend!!
