fish finder in kayak

My friend uses a Hummingbird fish finder and has mounted the transducer on the inside of the plastic hull. My question is he losing very much info by shooting threw the hull. I would like to use one but don't know if I should take a different route.

I had mounted the transducer inside the hull and the temperature feature was lost, as expected. I currently have it mounted externally on an outrigger, which creates a slight but noticeable drag when I'm paddling. I'm able to raise the unit above the water when I paddle to another location, so I settled for this to preserve the water temperature function. Mounting options vary depending on the make and model, and specific uses of the kayak.
I have a Tarpon 120 I paddle in the bays and am planning to rig it for open water paddling for fishing and hoop netting for lobster. Hope this helps...

I mounted my transducer through one of the scupper holes. I used a piece of aluminum from Home Depot to hold it tightly in place. Worked like a charm. Temps, depths, and I could tell when fish were really under the Kayak. From schools of bait to schools of mackerel or barracuda. I work great like this. I tried to do it mounted inside the hull and that method really sucked.







I mounted the aluminum bracket on the two screws on the Ram mount. It's really easy to do, I hope this will help you out a bit.

I like that mount a lot, Benny. Unfortunately my yak's scuppers are not as big as yours and the transducer will stick out the bottom of the hull making it vulnerable to damage. Nice rigging on that.

It's easy to fabricate a small arm over the side with the aluminium bars as well.
