Labor Day Plans

Postby midger » August 29th, 2013, 6:05 pm

So, any of you getting out this Labor Day or are you staying close to home? It seems this is the last big getaway weekend for many--especially those with kids in school.

I used to avoid the holiday weekends in SoCal, but it's not so bad up in Idaho. What they (locals) consider crowded, I find amusing as it's about as crowded as the Lower O midweek. Go figure. Guess it depends on your perspective and obviously a lot of these folks haven't fished the San Juan or the Green below Flaming Gorge.

I'll be headed a bit up north to hit some high mountain lakes with my daughter. I have to get fishing in a lot as I'll be headed back to SoCal the end of September.

How about the rest of you?

Staying real close to home. Three days of popper fishing at canyon with some addicts. Saturday Flybob, Sunday Wildman and Monday with Flyster. Should be an interesting weekend.

Crowded as mid week on the Lower O.......that is funny!

Friday gonna float tube a local swamp with 1mocast, see if we can get some snapping turtles and crawdads to take our flies......Yup, Saturday, it's popper time with Luc.....Sunday, rest and watch Tiger, Monday, read about everybody's weekend adventures watch Tiger some more, and barbeque.
O yeah, I plan on having a ice cold martini every evening, maybe two on Sunday!

I reluctantly turned down a Sierra trek (actually two).
Focusing on other matters but sneaking in beach sessions.
Yesterday I saw a legal white seabass swim by from the side of theSanta Monica Pier as bait balls were getting pushed around by birds. Messed with my head! That said, I'll probably target corbina.
Tight lines all!

I'll be doing a combo Saltwater/Freshwater day on Saturday to celebrate my birthday. Hitting the bay in the morning for some Spotted Bay Bass and maybe a Sand Bass (with a tiny chance at a Calico, maybe?) and then chasing some largemouth in the evening.

I was thinking about heading up to Idaho, but grouse season opens here in NV on Sunday, so I'll probably stick around and take the gun and the dog for a nice long walk.

I'll miss another Opening Day dove season, and be heading to the headwaters of the Aqueduct.

I'll be working the lower American as some salmon and a bunch of steelies are working their way up the river.

I'll be scouting Deer in x9 B for the season that starts in 3 weeks. I'll throw in a shotgun in case there's a few hungry Dove around. Bob

UPDATE for DAY 1:

Well, at first I was just kidding about tubing the swamp.......turns out it WAS a SWAMP! Two dry years have taken their toll!
The good news was that Mark's Fishing MoJo was spot on today.....he was nailing bass and gills all morning....I had one serious bass hookup....for about 7 seconds!
It was DANG HOT!
But all in all,,,,,,it was much better than working!

Looking forward to taking pictures of Luc catching bass tomorrow!
